I'm Fernando Possebon, a DevOps engineer and senior DBA based in Canoas, in the south of Brazil. I've spent more than two decades around technology — starting on the operations floor of large retailers, spending six years in Portugal building business-intelligence platforms, founding and leading companies, and ultimately coming full circle to where I'm happiest: hands-on with infrastructure, databases, and the systems that keep them running.
Where it started
My first real lessons came at scale. As a young analyst at Bausch & Lomb I led a network migration from Netware to Windows NT — small in hindsight, but the first time I felt the weight of a system other people depended on. Soon after, I was running IT for Sonae's Brazilian retail operation: 23,000 employees, 230 stores, EDI integrations with suppliers, and my first business-intelligence rollout with Cognos. When the systems you manage move that much of a company's daily reality, you learn quickly that reliability isn't a feature — it's the whole job.
Six years in Portugal
In 2004 I moved to Porto to work with the Sonae Group, and stayed until 2010. I managed infrastructure for a 260-person software factory at Tlantic, then became Product Manager for a business-intelligence platform serving 900 users at Modelo Continente Hipermercados. The work I'm proudest of from those years is deeply unglamorous and very satisfying: leading a migration to SQL Server Analysis Services 2008 with clustering, collapsing 3,900 static reports into 700 dynamic ones, and cutting system unavailability from two hours to thirty minutes. Living and working abroad also taught me how to operate across cultures, languages, and time zones — something that still shapes how I work remotely today.
Building & leading
Back in Brazil I ran IT for TMSA, a 700-employee industrial manufacturer, steering ERP migrations and modernizing its infrastructure. Then, in 2015, I took the leap and founded MAINROUTE — a technology consultancy I led for a decade. We delivered more than 200 projects across retail, logistics, manufacturing and financial services, and I grew the team from a pair of us to more than twenty. I built the monitoring and service-desk stacks, led VMware and cloud migrations in both directions, and architected a 10-year IT transformation for Vinícola Salton. That chapter taught me strategy, client trust, and how to be responsible for outcomes rather than tickets.
Back to hands-on
Somewhere along the way I realized the part of the work I never wanted to delegate was the engineering itself. So I leaned back into it. At Entrada Segura, the security startup I co-founded, I'm in the codebase every week — I built the observability stack from scratch with OpenTelemetry and the Grafana ecosystem (Loki, Tempo, Promtail), maintain CI/CD across four repositories, and tune the PostgreSQL that powers real-time access control for residential buildings. None of it is theoretical: we needed to debug production incidents fast, and correlated logs and traces are what made that possible.
Alongside it, I consult through Projectiva and ASODB Solutions — RDS and SQL Server assessments, a Windows-to-Kubernetes migration with GitOps and Terraform for Procer, AlwaysOn availability groups, performance tuning. And most recently I founded Kennis, where I'm architecting an AI-powered, multi-tenant customer-support platform. The titles have varied; the throughline never has.
How I work
I thrive in remote, autonomous environments where I can make independent technical recommendations and own the result. A few principles guide me:

Always learning — currently specializing in Data Science and AI — and genuinely interested in how things actually work under the hood.

The right tool for the job — managed services when operational overhead matters, self-managed when control is what counts.

Clear specs, documented decisions and trade-offs, transparent collaboration. Twenty years of client work made this non-negotiable.
Ownership
Responsibility for production systems and 24×7 availability — for the business outcome, not just task completion.
Where I'm headed
I'm completing post-graduate specializations in Data Science & AI and Computer Engineering, and I'm increasingly drawn to where infrastructure and intelligence meet. After years of wearing every hat, I know which one fits best — and I'm looking for remote senior DevOps and cloud roles where I can put my hands back on the work and the depth of a long career behind it.
